Lions, and tigers, and… elephants?

Erin Hemenway was raised backstage at the MGM Grand showcase, Hello Hollywood, Hello. She was sewing sequins onto, ahem… costumes, by age four. She lived a wild and varied childhood which included riding for the Historic Pony Express and touring Oklahoma! with her high school in Europe.

 

​She settled down in the Pacific Northwest where she began making racing documentaries and independent adventure films. With two kids and a breast cancer diagnosis, Erin transitioned into a full-time writer to keep her sanity during chemotherapy. She lives in Spokane, WA with her family & their flat-coated retriever Ellie.

FUN FACTS

  1. Erin wrote her first book in kindergarten. Her dad swears it's in a box somewhere.

  2. The first time she rode for the Historic Pony Express Erin was thirteen years old.

  3. After growing up in show business, Erin attended the prestigious Robert Louis Steven School in Pebble Beach. This is where a lifelong obsession with pirates was born.​

  4. As a theater kid, it was only natural to do a summer of theater at Northwestern University in their NHSI program.

  5. The year she graduated high school, Erin was 2nd Assistant Director for an independent feature film called "The Flats". ​

  6. That same year, she was the lead video director for a documentary titled "Junkyard to Finishline."

  7. That same year, she was a Production Assistant for the horror movie by Gore Verbinski, "The Ring". She helped make that video you have to share in seven days.

  8. As an active member of the Seattle Indie Film crowd, Erin went on to produce her own feature horror film, "Run, Hide, Die." (available on most platforms).

  9. After a live reading of her screenplay at Seattle International Film Festival's "First Draft" series, Erin began her foray into novel writing.

  10. After moving to Spokane, WA in 2016, Erin took the night shift at a local newspaper where she began writing in earnest and finished her first novel.

  11. Erin spent a number of years working for nonprofits that served at-risk youth in her community.

  12. During the dumpster fire that was 2020, Erin homeschooled her tinyhuman, raised her new baby, and fought against a double breast cancer diagnosis. 

  13. 2020 was the first year Erin participated in NaNoWriMo and won! This is particularly celebratory because she did it during chemotherapy treatments.

  14. Erin has had a double mastectomy. It sucked about as much as you might imagine.

  15. Erin participates monthly with the writing groups Tin Pencils and the S.W.A.N.s (Spokane Writers and Novelists).

She has written three books and is currently navigating the Wild West of publishing her work. She lives in the Inland Empire with her family and their flat-coated retriever named Ellie.
